A man was fatally shot by the police during a police operation in Top Hill District, Content Gardens in St. Ann this morning.

His identity has not been disclosed.

But the St. Ann Police describe him as a ‘high risk target’.

Preliminary reports are that about 4:30 a.m., a team of officers from the area 2 and area 5 Fugitive Apprehension Teams acting on information went to the suspect’s address in the community to conduct a search for illegal firearms.

Its reported that the police armed with a search warrant knocked on the door of the man’s apartment but shuffling was heard inside.

The officers breached the door and entered.

Further reports are that the suspect opened fire at the police, which was returned, resulting in the man being shot.

He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No member of the police team was wounded.

Meanwhile, police say a Taurus 9 mm pistol and 5 live rounds were recovered.

Additionally, a clear plastic bag containing 7 9mm rounds was also found on a bed inside the apartment.

Investigations are ongoing.
