“They are political activists”, PM accuses civil society groups of clouding public’s understanding of NaRRA

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has lambasted some civil society groups – which he claims are posing as political activists – for clouding the public’s understanding of the Government’s objective in introducing the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NaRRA).

NaRRA, which is designed to coordinate and drive major reconstruction and resilience projects, especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, faced significant pushback in Parliament and in the public domain as the Government fought to make it legislation.

In addition to criticisms from the Opposition, at least 28 civil society organisations raised concerns over NaRRA.

Speaking on the matter at Jamaica House yesterday, Prime Minister Holness noted that many of the challenges faced during the NaRRA debates stemmed from fear, mistrust and ignorance.

He stressed that those principles can be followed while moving swiftly.
