Rising Jamaican sprinter Lavanya Williams to make her Diamond League debut
Rising Jamaican sprinter Lavanya Williams will join Brianna Lyston as debutants on the Diamond League circuit when they compete at the Rabat meeting on Sunday.
The former Ruseas and William Knibb athlete will compete in the 100 meters and face World Championship silver medalist Tina Clayton, Jonielle, and Lyston who was confirmed for the event last week.
Williams, a member of dynamic speed athletic club, won the 100 metres at the Miramar Invitational in Florida, with a wind-assisted time of 10.99 seconds.
At Velocity Fest on april 19, the 21 year old Williams lowered her personal best twice for the 100 meters, running 11.04 in the semi-final and 10.96 in the final.
She was part of Jamaica’s quartet that struck gold in the 4×100 meters at the world athletics relays in Gaborone, Botswana where she ran the third leg, passing the baton to Elaine Thompson-Herah, as Jamaica won in 42.00 seconds.
