Several youth farmers in St. Ann are getting a helping hand from Japanese reggae sound system Mighty Crown, in restoring their livelihoods following devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

The initiative is being done in collaboration with Japanese non-profit organization Link Up Jaja, and the St. Aann branch of the 4 H Club.

The project involves provision of farm supplies and inputs, such as seeds, fertiliser, baby chicks and animal feed, help to clear farm land, building materials such as ply, blocks and cement, as well as back to school book vouchers. 

Speaking at the handing over ceremony recently, Link Up Jaja Representative Director Natsumi Nagamura noted that in addition to supporting the youth farmers, the donations from Mighty Crown will also aid some female farmers in St. Elizabeth, as well as help rebuild the homes of some hurricane victims in Belle Aire, Runaway Bay, St. Ann.

She expressed appreciation to Mighty Crown for the support. 

Since the hurricane, the group has made $20m in donations to various relief initiatives.
