Container to be used as temporary base for Richmond Police Station in St. Mary
A container will be used as a temporary base for the Richmond Police Station in St. Mary, as efforts get underway to repair the building.
The police station has repeatedly been impacted by flooding during periods of heavy rain, with the most recent event being captured on video and circulated on social media.
The station occupies the ground floor of a building that has the court on the upper floor.
The roof of the building was damaged during the passage of Hurricane Melissa last October and the Justice Ministry has assured that it will be repaired.
Providing an update on the situation to Irie Fm News yesterday, Member of Parliament for St. Mary South Eastern, Christopher Brown, said he has long been lobbying for rehabilitation work on the Richmond Police Station.
Mr. Brown said the work was delayed due to the issue with the roof.
Brown said work on the roof of the building is expected to be completed ahead of the upcoming 2026 hurricane season, which begins next month.
