Gov’t again assures that it will meet tomorrow’s deadline to relocate shelterees from schools

Minister of Local Government, Desmond Mckenzie says tomorrow’s deadline to relocate people still sheltering at schools following the passage of Hurricane Melissa, will be met.

Last month, the Ministry noted that eight schools were still operating as shelters, housing 81 shelterees.

It promised to relocate those persons to viable accommodations by Friday May 8.

Mr. Mckenzie said there are reports of persons discouraging shelterees from relocating.

Speaking earlier today, he noted that three families were still at the Petersfield High School in Westmoreland.

He said they were expected to be relocated by day’s end.
