Motorists urged to use right fuel grade for their vehicles
Motorists are being urged to always use the right fuel grade for their vehicles, as part of efforts to save money on gas.
Petrojam noted that switching to 87 Octane fuel would help save about 70 percent of persons who own gas powered vehicles.

Petrojam said while 87 Octane is suitable for most vehicles, many drivers are still opting for the more expensive 90 Octane, leading to unnecessary costs.
Opting for 87-Octane gas instead of 90-Octane could lead to savings of up to 15 dollars per litre, at the pump.
Communications Manager for Petrojam Elon Parkinson said using the right Octane provides smoother operation, better performance, and engine safety.
Octane rating measures a fuel’s performance and anti-knock properties, indicating how much compression the fuel can withstand before igniting prematurely.
Motorists are being urged to check their vehicle owner’s manual or manufacturer’s recommendation for the correct Octane grade.
Parkinson said higher octane has nothing to do with getting better mileage; it just prevents engine knock on higher compression or turbo charged engines.
He added that for most vehicles, 87 provides optimal performance and reliability.
He pointed out that with rising petroleum prices, every dollar counts, so it’s important to encourage motorists to use the right type of fuel.
If in doubt, motorists should consult a qualified technician or service professional.
