Persons who bought Pan Caribbean sugar are being asked to return them to point of sale and seek redress

Consumers who purchased Pan Caribbean Sugar Company’s packaged sugar are being asked to return it to the point of sale to seek appropriate redress.

This as Pan Caribbean has issued a product recall notice.

The recall specifically relates to packaged brown sugar in sizes 0.5 kilogrammes, one kilogramme and 2 kilogrammes, with manufacturing dates March 30 to April 12, 2026.

Consumers are to look for batch numbers: 01-2026 to 01-2028, 02-2026 to 02-2028 and 03-2026 to 03-2028.

The Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) said under the Consumer Protection Act, consumers are entitled to remedies where goods are found to be faulty, not fit for purpose, or do not match the description provided at the time of purchase.

These remedies may include repair, replacement, or refund, depending on the nature of the defect and the circumstances of the purchase.

The CAC noted that since there is a potential health or safety risk, consumers are strongly urged to immediately discontinue use of the product, and also return the product to the point of sale as soon as possible.

In cases involving serious health risks, consumers should seek medical attention where necessary and retain any medical documentation to support their claim.

The CAC is reminding businesses of their obligation to uphold consumer rights and to respond promptly and fairly to complaints.

Consumers experiencing difficulties in obtaining redress are encouraged to contact the consumer affairs commission for assistance.

The product recall comes in the wake of complaints about metal fragments in the sugar and subsequent lab tests confirming the presence of extraneous matter.
