Opposition calls for immediate independent probe into baby Ramontay Rakai Ranger’s death

The Opposition People’s National Party is calling for an immediate independent inquiry into the death of baby Ramontay Rakai Ranger.

Ramontay died at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James on Good Friday.

His mother, 33-year-old Shandale Ballentine, has detailed her ordeal at the St. James-based Hospital in social media posts, saying she has several questions to be answered.

The situation has sparked concern among members of the public and the Opposition People’s National Party over whether the hospital was negligent in the case. The Western Regional Health Authority has launched a probe into the matter, but the Opposition wants an independent review.

Spokesperson on Health, Dr. Alfred Dawes, argues that the death of the baby is not an isolated incident but an inevitable consequence of sustained institutional failure under the Holness Administration.

Dr. Dawes says the Opposition will not allow this matter to be minimised or forgotten.
