CARICOM Reparations Commission says recent UN resolution lays foundation for dialogue on human decency
The CARICOM Reparations Commission says the recent adoption of a United Nations resolution recognising the trafficking and racialised chattel enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity has laid the foundation for a dialogue on human decency.
Commission Chairman Sir Hilary Beckles made the remark during a virtual conference this morning as he called for continued discussions regarding reparatory justice.
The resolution, led by Ghana, was adopted on March 25, as the global community commemorated the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
Jamaica was among 123 countries that voted in support of it.
Sir Hilary said the adoption of the resolution was long overdue.
