SUFJ expresses concern over police fatal shootings since the start of the year
Executive Director of Stand Up for Jamaica, Carla Gullotta has expressed concern about the number of police fatal shooting incidents since the start of the year.
According to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) 88 people have died in alleged confrontations with the security forces since January.
INDECOM said of that number, 12 occurred since the start of April.
Speaking with IRIE FM News last evening, Ms. Gullotta said fatal shootings have been a concern since last year, when the highest number of fatal shootings were recorded in a single year.
She again highlighted the need for the use of body-worn cameras by the police when they engage in operations.
Ms. Gullota said the use of body worn cameras will increase transparency.
