Jamaica Customs Agency says Canine Programme is declaration that it will not be outmatched by those who seek to exploit nation’s borders

Commissioner of Customs, Dr. Velma Ricketts Walker has stated that Customs will not be outpaced or outmatched by those who seek to exploit Jamaica’s borders.

She was speaking during the launch of the agency’s Canine Programme, yesterday.

She said the programme, which comprises 12 staff members and eight highly trained canines is a declaration that the Jamaica Customs Agency is making the necessary adaptations to fight against criminality.

She added that in a world where illicit trade is no longer predictable, the programme will help to detect narcotics, explosives, military weapons, munitions, and illicit goods.

Dr. Ricketts Walker also noted that the programme is already reaping positive outcomes.

However, she maintained that it is part of an integrated border protection framework.
