Opposition Leader Mark Golding renews call for body cameras for members of the security forces
Amid ongoing concerns over police-involved shootings, Opposition Leader Mark Golding has emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in law enforcement and has renewed the call for the use of body worn cameras.
He highlighted the issue during his budget debate presentation in Parliament yesterday.
According to Mr. Golding, successful policing depends on the trust and support of citizens and the use of body cams by members of the constabulary would help to strengthen public confidence.
Mr. Golding urged the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to ensure the swift use of the technology.
In January, the JCF said the deployment of 1000 body-worn cameras was in an advanced stage and more of the devices were being procured.
