Three Jamaican winners at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

Three Jamaicans are still celebrating today, after being crowned winners in their respective events, on the weekend, as the curtains came down on the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Dejenae Oakley representing the University of Georgia, ran a national record and personal best 50.47 seconds to win the women’s 400 metres, Shanice Walker of Florida State University took the gold  in the 60 meters in 7.08 seconds, while Tyrese Taylor of the University of Arkansas took the men’s 800 meters – in a  personal best 1 minute 46 seconds flat. 

A total of 14 Jamaican NCAA All-Americans competed at the two days championship, with 4 second place finishers, including, Gabrielle Mathews of Florida State University, in the 200 meters in a personal best 22.55 seconds.

Kobe Lawrence of the University of Oregon in the men’s shot put, who registered a personal best 20.50 meters, Shante Foreman in the triple jump and Rivaldo Marshall in the 800 meters  were the other second place athletes. 

In the meantime,  the lone third place finisher was Demario Prince of Baylor University in the men’s 60 meter hurdles after clocking 7.48 seconds. 

Meanwhile, two athletes who finished 5th, there was a lone 6th place , and 3 Jamaican competitors who finished 7th in their events. 

6 of the 14 All-Americans also had personal bests in the finals.
