The modular container homes being procured by the Government to address housing needs following Hurricane Melissa should start arriving in the country as of today.

The houses were expected to arrive last month.

Minister with responsibility for land titling and settlements, Robert Montague, explains that there were some issues, but the houses will start arriving today.

The National Housing Trust is to procure 5,000 pre-built container homes for rapid deployment, and the Ministry with responsibility for housing is also acquiring some of the housing units.

Mr. Montague says some of the modular container homes will house social cases at hospitals.

The Minister says the initiative is being expanded and others will benefit.

Meanwhile, Mr. Montague says Westmoreland will benefit from the accelerated land titling programme.

The parish was devastated by Hurricane Melissa, with thousands left homeless.

It is anticipated that the titles will enable residents to rebuild better.
