Cops offering counselling support to teen taken into custody in connection with death of Ocho Rios High student, Devonie Shearer
The St. Ann police say they will be offering counselling support to the teen boy taken into custody in connection with the death of Ocho Rios High student, Devonie Shearer.
The teen and the deceased, who are both pupils at the institution, reportedly got into an altercation while in Ocho Rios town on Tuesday.
Reports further indicate that while at school yesterday, Shearer was standing in the classroom when the other boy approached from behind and hit him on the head with a metal chair.
Shearer fell and became unconscious.
He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The alleged attacker fled the school after the incident, but is now in police custody.
Speaking with IRIE FM News this morning, Head of the St. Ann police, Senior Superintendent Carlos Russell, said investigations are ongoing.
He noted that intervention support is also being offered to the accused.
SSP Russell added that members of the Constabulary’s Community Safety and Security Branch (CSSB), along with other agencies, are providing counselling support for the school body.
Noting that the incident has left two families dealing with the consequences, SSP Russell is urging persons to find amicable ways to address conflicts.
