New Zealand cuts down the high flying South Africa in first semi final of the ICC T20 Word Cup
New Zealand cricketers coasted to an upset nine wicket victory over the high riding South Africa in the first semi final of the ICC T20 Word Cup at Eden Gardens, in Kolkata on Wednesday.
Chasing a manageable victory target of 170, the Kiwis led by brutal unbeaten century from opener Finn allen romped to the win for the loss of one wicket and 43 balls to spare.
Allen wollopped 10 fours and 8 sixes in his kock that came off 33 deliveries.
He had shared in an opening stand of 117 time seifert who cracked 58 from 33 balls inclusing seven fours and two sixes before he was removed by Kagiso Rabada.
Rachin Ravindra finished on 13 not out
The proteas batting first were held to a modest 169 for 8 in their 20 overs.
A lower order blitz from Marco ansen saw him end unbeaten on 55 from 30 deliveries including five sixes and two fours.
Dewald Brevis 34 from 27 deliveries and tristan stubbs 29 from 24 were also among the runs.
Cole mchonchie 2 for 9, rachin ravindra 2 for 29 and matt henry 2 for 35 led the New Zealand attack.
New Zealand now awaits the winner of Thursday’s second semi final between hosts India and England.
