GOVT to disburse payments to more approved beneficiaries under ROOFS programme, this week
The Ministry of Social Security says it will continue disbursing payments to approved beneficiaries under the restoration of owner/occupant family shelters, ROOFS programme, this week.
It said handover ceremonies are scheduled in Hanover, St. James and St. Ann between tomorrow and Friday.
In a press release today the ministry said the payments form part of the government’s ongoing recovery response to households affected by hurricane Melissa.
ROOFS provides cash grants to assist with the restoration of owner-occupied family dwellings, based on verified damage assessments.
The ministry said successful applicants with dwellings with severe or total loss will receive $500,000, those with major damage or significant structural damage will received $200,000 and those with minor house damage will receive $75,000.
Disbursements began on January 30, 2026.
The ministry said as at yesterday February 23, 7,861 beneficiaries have received approximately $2.1 billion in assistance.
The government has allocated an initial 10 billion Jamaican dollars to support the programme’s implementation and ensure timely assistance to affected households.
