Jamaica’s Under 17 Reggae Boys created history today after they qualified for the upcoming FIFA Under 17 World Cup in Qatar, following an emphatic 3-1 triumph over Canada at the Costa Rican Federation field, in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

The Jamaicans opened the scoring in the 37th minute, when Jemone Lyle played the perfect pass on to Jamari Molan who made no mistake.

Lyle, then helped Jamaica pile the pressure on the Canadians when he got on the score-sheet in the 53 rd minute.

The Canadians pulled one back in the 71st minute as Von Parker fired home from the penalty spot.

Canada was later reduced to ten players, as Vicente Lourenco was sent off for a second bookable offense.

The Wendell Fownswell coached Jamaicans then pressed home the advantage , as Dwayne Burgher added the finishing touch when he scored in the 91st minute, to help Jamaica punched their ticket to the big show-piece in November and become the first national team to secure three World Cup qualifications.

The achievement was Jamaica’s first qualification to a World Cup on the men’s side in 15 years and the first to an under 17 World Cup since 2011.

Incidentally, Coach Wendell Downswell was at the helm when Jamaica qualified for the 2011 World Cup , as the Reggae Boys clipped Honduras 2-1 in Montego Bay.

Ranked 11th coming into the clash against the Canadians who are ranked third, and with only 27 percent ball possession, Jamaica still had 11 shots on goal to Canada’s 18.

Meanwhile, in the other group game of academic interest, Aruba beat the cayman island 3-1.
