Policeman charged in connection with seizure of 85 rounds of ammunition

A policeman has been charged in connection with the seizure of 85 rounds of ammunition, during an intelligence driven operation on Friday.

He is 31-year-old Constable Tarnel Wright, who was assigned to the Westmoreland Police Division.

He was charged by detectives assigned to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch C-TOC.

Police report that Wright and another man, who is a civilian, were arrested during a collaborative operation by members of C-TOC and investigators from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division FNID in sections of Westmoreland and Hanover.

Its reported that during the operation a motor vehicle, mobile phones and a sum of cash were seized.

Constable Wright has been formally charged with: possession of prohibited weapon, stockpiling, dealing in prohibited weapon and conspiracy to trafficking prohibited weapon.

In reaffirming the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s dedication to transparency, head of C-TOC, Senior Superintendent Christopher Brown, emphasises that no individual is above the law.

He states that the Jamaica Constabulary Force has made a promise to provide impartial and professional service to Jamaicans, and the force intends to keep that promise.

Meantime, the other man is still in police custody; however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
