Police constable, one of two arrested in anti-trafficking operations in Hanover and Westmoreland
A 31-year-old police constable is one of two men arrested following a series of intelligence-driven anti-trafficking operations conducted by law-enforcement in Hanover and Westmoreland yesterday.
The officer is attached to the Westmoreland Police Division.
The operations were led by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime branch (CTOC) in collaboration with the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID).
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, investigators seized a total of 85 assorted rounds of ammunition, a motor vehicle, several mobile phones and a sum of cash during the operations.
In Hanover, two men were nabbed in an operation targeting the illegal sale of ammunition.
A subsequent search of the vehicle they occupied led to the discovery of additional rounds.
Follow-up operations also resulted in the recovery of more ammunition at a location in Westmoreland.
The constable and a 39-year-old civilian were taken into custody in relation to the matter.
Both men are being detained on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Firearms (Prohibition, Restriction and Regulation) Act 2022, as investigations continue.
The JCF has reiterated its zero-tolerance approach to criminal activity, particularly where it involves its members.
