Tavares Finson recognises former PMs Manley and Seaga for their contributions to reforming nation’s electoral system

Senate President Tom Tavares Finson has recognised former Prime Ministers Michael Manley and Edward Seaga for their contributions to reforming the nation’s electoral system.

Senator Tavares Finson’s extollation comes a day before he officially steps down as a member of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ).

He announced his retirement from the post on Wednesday.

Tavares Finson was commended for his more than 20 years of service in the position during today’s Senate sitting.

In response, he noted that while no single individual can be credited with reforming Jamaica’s electoral system, Mr. Manley’s and Mr. Seaga’s early visions on the matter cannot go unnoticed.

He said Mr. Manley and Mr. Seaga established the foundation for successive Prime Ministers, P.J. Patterson and Bruce Golding to build on.
