Energy Minister Daryl Vaz has disclosed that $165 million has been allocated to the Energy Poverty Reduction Project in Westmoreland to further hurricane Melissa recovery efforts. 

He was speaking yesterday at the official launch of the JPS Emergency Mobile Power Generation Unit in Darliston, Westmoreland.

According to Mr. Vaz, the funds will target house wiring, remedial works and government electrical regulator certification. 

Mr. Vaz said the works began last month and are expected to end in March. 

He noted that the move is indicative of the government’s push to restore power to citizens impacted by the hurricane.

According to Mr. Vaz, focus is being placed on western parishes which suffered the brunt of damage.
