NAJ President to visit Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James today, following last week’s protest by nurses attached to A&E department
President of the Nurses Association of Jamaica Dawn-Marie Richards says she will visit the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James today, following last week’s protest by nurses attached to the Accident and Emergency department.
The nurses called for better working conditions, with overcrowding at the A and E department among their concerns.
The Jamaica Medical Doctors Association (JMDA) has welcomed commitments made by health authorities to remedy poor working conditions at the department.
The commitments were made in a meeting on Saturday.
JMDA president Dr Renee Badroe said the meeting was held with representatives from the hospital and the Western Regional Health Authority.
She said during the meeting, the authorities agreed to strengthen primary care services and create a field hospital.
A commitment was also made to complete necessary repairs within three weeks.
Speaking to IRIE FM News, Mrs Richards said she will visit the hospital today to hear from the nurses.
CRH suffered extensive damage during the passage of Hurricane Melissa, this has reportedly impacted spacing at the facility.
