Grants of up to $500,000 available under SRP for persons whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Melissa

Under the Shelter Recovery Programme (SRP) persons whose homes were damaged by hurricane Melissa, could receive up to $500,000 to assist with rebuilding.

This was revealed by Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness at the launch of the programme today (Thursday January 15).

The SRP is a coordinated post disaster housing recovery mechanism.

It integrates initiatives such as roofs, government-directed repairs, partner-led restoration and rapid shelter solutions to ensure assistance is needs-based, targeted and responsive to affected households.

Dr. Holness noted that the grant may not be enough for total rehabilitation but is meant for providing support.

He explained that each person can only qualify to benefit from the programme, once.

Meantime, Dr. Holness advised persons to be cautious of scammers.

He clarified that the Ministry of Social Security will not be hiring intermediaries as part of the programme.
