Government to launch shelter recovery programme tomorrow

The government will launch the Shelter Recovery Programme SRP tomorrow.

It will address matters related to support for households affected by hurricane Melissa.

It’s a coordinated post disaster housing recovery mechanism.

It integrates initiatives such as roofs, government-directed repairs, partner-led restoration, and rapid shelter solutions to ensure assistance is needs-based, targeted, and responsive to affected households.

The ministry of social security has been undertaking household damage assessments, to determine the level of grant assistance affected residents will receive.

It was stated late last year that the home repair grants would be disbursed as of this month.

Portfolio Minister Pearnel Charles jr says more details will be provided at tomorrow’s launch.

Information on the cash-based grants to facilitate rehabilitation and roof repairs will also be provided.

Mr. Charles jr says more than 70,000 assessments have been completed.

He explained that in recent days, the process has been hampered by rain.

The social security minister says assessments are done in 5 categories.
