Justice Minister Delroy Chuck challenges over 50% reduction in murders for 2026
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has challenged the country to aim for a greater reduction in murders for 2026.
He believes a more than 50% reduction in murder is possible.
Jamaica recorded 673 murders last year, a 41% reduction over 2024 and a 31-year low of fewer than 700 murders.
The Justice Minister said the ministry will promote social harmony across the country this year, as it is important to build on what has been achieved so far, especially in crime reduction.
Mr. Chuck has called on Justices of the Peace (JPs) to work closely with the police to achieve the target.
He was speaking at the annual custos church service at the Mandeville Baptist Church in Manchester yesterday.
Mr. Chuck urged citizens to support the police.
