Sunshine Girls arrive in England ahead of Netball Horizon Series showdown with Roses
Jamaica’s senior Sunshine Girls have arrived in England as they finalize preparations for this weekend’s two-match Vitality Netball Horizon Series against the England Roses at the Copper Box Arena in London.
The Jamaicans return to the UK looking to build on last year’s impressive showing, when they claimed the four-match series 2–1, with the other game ending in a draw. However, they will do so with a significantly reshaped squad, with several marquee players are absent for this tour.
Captain Jhaniele Fowler, Shamera Sterling, Jodi-Ann Ward, Latanya Wilson, Shimona Nelson, Kadie-Ann Dehaney and Romelda Aiken — all based in Australia — are unavailable for selection.
With many senior players missing, head coach Sasher Gaye Henry-Wright has opted for a youthful but ambitious group led by veteran standout Shanice Beckford, who will captain the team. Experienced mid-courter Khadijah Williams has been named vice-captain.
Also boosting the squad are seasoned campaigners Adean Thomas and Vangelee Williams, with the latter returning to national duties after nearly five years away from the programme.
