Three men fatally shot by police on Mandela Highway

Police say today’s incident, which saw three men being fatally shot by the police, along the Nelson Mandela Highway, unfolded as part of a probe into a series of robberies connected to a black Honda Fit motor car.

According to investigators, officers attached to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime investigation Branch (C-TOC) were acting on intelligence in relation to the vehicle, which has been linked to multiple robbery cases.

The Honda fit was spotted at approximately 11:45 this morning and the police say, they signalled the driver to stop.

However, the occupants allegedly disobeyed the instruction.

The vehicle was later intercepted and police report that the men reportedly opened gunfire at the team.

Officers returned fire and when the shooting ended,the three men were found with gunshot wounds.

The police recovered a Taurus G2C 9-millimetre pistol and a Beretta 9-millimetre pistol, both loaded with rounds in their magazines and chambers at the scene. 

The men, who have not yet been identified, were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where they were pronounced dead shortly after midday.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been notified.
