The Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities (JCPD) says since the passage of Hurricane Melissa, it delivered hundreds of care packages to persons with disabilities.

The Council said through its relief distribution drive, it has so far received 400 food and care packages.

The JCPD noted that 300 of the packages were provided by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and 100 were funded from JCPD’s budget.

According to the JCPD between October 31 and November 12 approximately 275 packages were distributed or assigned to Disability Management Officers (DMOS) for immediate delivery.

At least 160 were delivered to persons with disabilities across Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, Hanover, Trelawny, St. James, St. Ann, Manchester, and Clarendon.

Executive Director Dr. Christine Hendricks said for those with Infrastructural needs, the requests will be directed to Food for the Poor and the Office of the Prime Minister for their consideration.

The JCPD is continuing distributions this week.

The JCPD is urging citizens to contact them at 876-515-9069 or 876-299-7393 if they meet a person with a disability who has been affected by Hurricane Melissa.

They should provide the person’s name, location, and contact details.
