St. Thomas suffered approximately $1.5B in agricultural losses following Hurricane Melissa
St. Thomas has suffered approximately $1.5 billion in agricultural losses, following the passage of Hurricane Melissa on October 28.
Parish Manager for the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), Errard Stephenson gave the estimate during the monthly meeting of the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
Despite suffering such major loss, Mr. Stephenson said the parish’s farmers remain ready to ramp up production.
This in response to a call from Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness for eastern parishes to increase production levels.
The eastern side of St. Thomas will help with this effort.
