ODPEM says 15 people missing; rainfall projected for northern, southwestern parishes could affect relief efforts

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is working with the police to verify reports of missing persons following Hurricane Melissa.

Speaking at Jamaica House this morning, ODPEM’s Director General, Commander Alvin Gayle said 15 people have been reported missing.

Commander Gayle also noted that there are two communities in Westmoreland and St. James which are marooned.

He said relief supplies were airdropped to the communities yesterday.

Meanwhile, Commander Gayle is advising that rainfall is projected to impact northern parishes starting this afternoon which may affect relief efforts.

Southwestern parishes may also be affected.
