Jamaica’s death toll from Hurricane Melissa now at 45; St. Elizabeth records 18, the highest

Jamaica’s death toll from Hurricane Melissa, which ravaged the island on October 28, has climbed to 45.

Information Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon gave the update during a special press briefing at Jamaica House in Kingston this morning.

She noted that the deaths were confirmed following investigations by the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Jamaica Defence Force.

St. Elizabeth recorded the highest number of deaths with 18, followed by Westmoreland with 15.

Acknowledging that the tragedies have brought sadness to the victims’ loved ones, Dr. Morris Dixon called on all Jamaicans to pray for their comfort at this time.
