Limited commercial operations to resume at Sangster International Airport tomorrow; tourists to depart

Limited commercial operations will resume at the Sangster International Airport (SIA) in Montego Bay, St. James, tomorrow.

Operations were suspended ahead of Hurricane Melissa, which devastated Jamaica on Tuesday.

After the hurricane, only relief flights had been arriving at the airport over the past two days.

According to MBJ Airports Limited, operators of the SIA, limited commercial flight operations will begin at 7:00 AM.

It says that as airlines confirm their flights, the schedule will be shared so passengers may plan accordingly.

Passengers are urged to confirm their flight status with their airlines before travelling to the airport to prevent unnecessary congestion, which will impact the level of service.

Hoteliers are also being asked not to take passengers without confirmed flights to the airport.

MBJ Airports Limited says its objective is to restore operations swiftly but safely, minimizing disruption to the travelling public.

In the meantime, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz noted that the facilitation of limited commercial flights at the SIA tomorrow will allow tourists trapped on the island due to the hurricane to depart.

Vaz was speaking at a special press briefing at Jamaica House this morning.
