Four people died during the passage of category 5 Hurricane Melissa, yesterday.

The deaths were recorded in St. Elizabeth.

The identities of the deceased have not been released, but one is a woman and the others are men.

Head of the St. Elizabeth police Superintendent Coleridge Minto said two of the bodies were discovered in the Gallon Beach area.

Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond McKenzie has expressed sadness at the tragedies.

He said the deceased are, by all indications, direct victims of the hurricane.

He expressed condolences  to the families and friends of the victims.
