Though TS Melissa has drifted slightly from Jamaica, this may be short-lived – Principal Director of the Met Service, Evan Thompson
Principal Director of the Meteorological Service, Evan Thompson, says Tropical Storm Melissa is still moving very slowly across the Caribbean.
At 1:00 p.m., the centre of Melissa was located about 199 miles south-southeast of Morant Point or 230 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica.
Mr. Thompson, who gave an update at Jamaica House this afternoon, said that though the system has drifted slightly from Jamaica, this may be short-lived.
Tropical Storm Melissa is expected to bring major rainfall over eastern parishes this weekend, causing widespread flooding and landslides.
The Tropical Storm Warning and the Hurricane Watch continue for Jamaica.
