Local authorities are on alert as they pay close attention to the weather over the coming days.

Jamaica is under a severe weather alert, due to a strong tropical wave across the southeastern Caribbean Sea.

 The Met Office says it’s becoming better organized as it moves westward.

Conditions are expected to be more favourable for tropical depression or tropical storm development .

The country has been experiencing heavy rainfall over recent weeks, with flooding in some areas.

in at least two parishes works on drains were undertaken up to yesterday.

Mayor of Montego Bay, Richard Vernon, who spoke with IRIE FM News yesterday, said St. James is as ready as it can be.

In Westmorleand, Mayor Danree Delancy said drainage works were done at Dalling Street and in Savanna La Mar. 

He added that other drains will be addressed today.

Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay Michael Belnavis said the corporation has been proactive this hurricane season. 

He’s urging persons to desist from activities that result in drains being blocked.
