Garnet Silk’s daughter Wayzero Smith overjoyed by dad’s posthumous honour

In another 5 days amid Heritage Day celebrations, the government of Jamaica will award reggae artiste Garnet Silk with the nation’s sixth-highest national honour, the Order of Distinction, Commander Class at the National Honours and Awards ceremony.

IRIE FM caught up with the late singer’s daughter Wayzero Smith who shared her pride about the posthumous recognition.

Known for hits like, Zion in a Vision, Hello Mamma Africa, Oh Me Oh My and numerous others, Garnet Silk, born Garnet Damion Smith, was on the verge of international stardom, when his career was cut short by his tragic death in 1994.

Other entertainment figures receiving national awards on heroes Day are Cleveland “Clevie” Browne, of the production duo, Steely and Clevie. Fellow producer, Lloyd “King Jammy” James, singers Etana, Kevin Downswell, L’Acadco founder L’Antoniette Stines and studio engineer Bertie Grant.
