Claudette Thompson assumes duties as new DPP effective today

Claudette Thompson assumes duties as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) effective today.

Ms. Thompson takes over the job from former DPP, Paula Llewellyn, who demitted office last month.

Ms. Thompson has been acting in the position.

She first acted in 2019, then served in that capacity again last April, when Ms. Llewellyn stepped aside temporarily, while issues relating to her retirement were clarified.

Many in the legal fraternity have expressed their confidence in Ms. Thompson’s abilities and voiced their support for her to be given the top job, citing her years of experience, wealth of knowledge and leadership skills.

The Office of the Public Service Commission indicated that Thompson was formally appointed DPP effective today.
