Police say criminals are using advanced technology and software to commit crimes

Following yesterday’s operations in St. Catherine, police have revealed that criminals are using advanced technology, including 3D printers and specialized software.

Commanding Officer for North St. Catherine, Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, said the discovery was made during a series of intelligence-led operations across the division, which also led to the seizure of four firearms and several rounds of ammunition.

According to SSP Nicholson, among the items recovered, was a laptop connected to advanced software, used by criminals to interconnect various devices and coordinate activities.

SSP Nicholson warned that the use of such technology represents an evolution in how gangs operate, increasing the sophistication of their attacks.

He noted the operable imitation firearms, such as those made using 3D printing, adding that the police are well-equipped to detect and track these weapons.
