2 persons interested in serving as “walking accomplices” in Mount Diablo/Treadways, St Catherine to help ensure children’s safety after 7yo raped
Member of Parliament (MP) for North West St. Catherine, Damion Crawford, says two persons have signalled their interest to serve as “walking accomplices” in the Mount Diablo/Treadways area to help ensure children’s safety.
On September 27, two days after a seven-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the community, Mr. Crawford told IRIE FM News that he had written to the Education Ministry, appealing for the implementation of the “accomplices”.
This, as the young girl was ambushed and reportedly drugged while walking home from school.
A 27-year-old man accused of the crime has been charged with rape, forcible abduction and sexual touching.
In an update this week, Mr. Crawford noted that with two persons already identified to escort the students, he is awaiting a decision from the Ministry about whether or not their salaries will be covered.
The MP has also called for the establishment of a school road maintenance programme to increase transportation in the area.
He said taxi operators have refrained from plying the route due to the poor condition of the roadway.
