India take command as Jaiswal century puts West Indies on the back foot in Delhi

The West Indies are already facing an uphill battle at the close of play after a dominant batting display from India on the opening day of the second and final Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

A superb century partnership of 193 for the second wicket between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan laid the foundation for India’s control of the contest. Jaiswal remains unbeaten on a magnificent 173, studded with 22 boundaries, while Sudharsan fell just 13 runs short of a century after being dismissed for 87.

India, who elected to bat first, closed the day on a commanding 318 for 2. Captain Shubman Gill ended the day on 20 not out, having added 67 so far for the third wicket with Jaiswal. Earlier, KL Rahul contributed 38 before falling to left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, who was the lone bright spot for the visitors, claiming both wickets to finish with figures of 2 for 60.

The West Indies made two changes to the side that lost the opening Test, bringing in Tevin Imlach and Anderson Phillip in place of Brandon King and Johann Layne.
