12 shot, 6 fatally in separate mass shootings in St. Catherine and St. Andrew last evening

Six people, including a 4-year-old girl were killed and six others wounded in separate mass shooting incidents in St. Catherine and St. Andrew last evening.

The incidents occurred in Commodore, Linstead, St. Catherine and York Avenue, Cockburn Pen in St. Andrew.

One person was killed and two others, including a 9-year-old girl, were wounded in the York Avenue incident.

A 4-year-old girl is among five killed in Commodore.

Four others, including an 11-year-old sustained gunshot wounds.

Those killed are four-year-old Shannon Gordon, 19-year-old Jowane Walters, 39-year-old Iysha Washington and 42-year-old Mario Sullivan – all from Rosemount District, Linstead and 22-year-old Famous Amos from Commodore.

Police say that at about 8:50 P.M., several people were at a business establishment in Commodore when they were approached by armed men, who instructed them not to move.

Some of the victims reportedly ran due to fear and the gunmen opened fire.

After the shooting subsided, nine people and a dog were found with gunshot wounds.

The wounded persons were transported to hospital, where young Shannon, Amos, Edwards, Washington and Sullivan were pronounced dead.

The others, including an eleven-year-old child, are being treated.

Reports indicate that the York Avenue triple shooting occurred around the same time as the Commodore incident.

Fifty-three-year-old Leroy Thompson, otherwise called “Gritty,” a bar operator of York Avenue, Kingston 11 was killed.

Reports from the Hunts Bay Police are that at about 8:50 P.M., Thompson was among a group of persons along the roadway when armed men alighted from a white motor vehicle and opened gunfire at them before escaping in the car.

Following the shooting, Thompson, another man and a 9-year-old girl were seen suffering from gunshot wounds.

They were assisted to the hospital, where Thompson was pronounced dead.

The others were admitted for treatment.

The incidents are being investigated.

At least 528 people have been murdered in Jamaica since the start of the year.
