Windies fight to avoid whitewash against Nepal in final T20I
The West Indies will be battling to salvage pride and avoid the embarrassment of a whitewash when they take on Nepal in the third and final T20 International of the three-match series today in Sharjah.
The Caribbean men are already 2–0 down in the series after suffering another crushing defeat on Monday, when they were thrashed by 90 runs in the second game.
Chasing 174 for victory, the Windies’ batting lineup collapsed once again, bowled out for just 83 in 17.1 overs. Jason Holder top-scored with 21, while Amir Jangoo (18) and Akeem Auguste (17) were the only other players to reach double figures.
Nepal’s right-arm medium pacer Mohammad Aadil Alam ripped through the West Indies batting order with figures of 4 for 24, while Khushal Bhurtel offered strong support with 3 for 16.
Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat, Nepal posted a competitive 173 for 6 from their 20 overs. Opener Aasif Sheikh starred with an unbeaten 68 off 47 balls, anchoring the innings while putting on a record-breaking 100-run fourth-wicket stand with Sundeep Jora, who struck a brisk 63 from 39 deliveries.
Kyle Mayers (2 for 26) and skipper Akeal Hosein (2 for 21) were the most effective bowlers for the Windies, but their efforts could not prevent Nepal from seizing control.
This series marks Nepal’s first ever against a full ICC member nation, and the home side has already made history by clinching the series. For the West Indies, today’s clash is about avoiding further embarrassment and restoring some pride before returning home.
