Arnett Gardens rally to beat Waterhouse as Match Day 5 closes in JPL
The action on Match Day 5 of the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League wrapped up on Monday evening with a dramatic comeback from last season’s third-place finishers Arnett Gardens, who edged Waterhouse 2-1 at the Waterhouse Mini Stadium in Kingston.
The hosts looked on course for victory when Javane Bryan fired them ahead in the 53rd minute. But the “Junglists” showed resilience, replying just two minutes later through Roderick Granville before substitute Shai Smith sealed the win in the 85th minute.
The result marked Arnett’s third consecutive victory, lifting them three places up the standings to fifth on nine points. Waterhouse, meanwhile, slipped to eighth on six points after suffering back-to-back defeats.
Earlier in the day, newly promoted Spanish Town Police FC celebrated their first-ever top-flight point, battling to a goalless draw with Chapelton Maroons. The stalemate pushed Chapelton into a four-way tie at the top of the table on 10 points alongside Racing United, Portmore United, and Montego Bay United.
Racing remain leaders on goal difference, with Portmore second, Mobay third, and Chapelton in fourth. Racing dropped points for the first time this season after a 0-0 draw with Dunbeholden on Sunday, while Portmore notched a 2-0 victory over Montego Bay thanks to strikes from Peter McGregor and Javier Brown.
Defending champions Cavalier also found relief on Sunday, ending a two-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Treasure Beach at Sabina Park. Tivoli Gardens and Molynes United played to a 1-1 draw at the Edward Seaga Complex in the other fixture.
