The Constabulary’s Agricultural Protection Branch to monitor St. Ann and St. Mary farming communities for compliance

The Constabulary’s Agricultural Protection Branch (APB) says farming communities in St. Ann and St. Mary will be on the branch’s watch-list to ensure higher compliance.

APB Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Oral Pascoe, told IRIE FM News that following a three-day tour of St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland starting last Thursday, his team confirmed that more attention needs to be placed on persons in those areas.

At least seven individuals were charged for breaches of the National Animal Identification and Traceability System (NAITS) during the APB’s tour.

The individuals were found with cattle which were untagged and for which they could not give an account.

Commander Pascoe noted that the APB is committed to creating a change where more persons are compliant with the agricultural requirements.

He stressed that it is beneficial to farmers and consumers.

In the meantime, the Commander is urging farming communities to collaborate with the APB and the government if they are serious about curbing the activities of praedial larcenists.

He maintained that one method of collaboration is to immediately report agricultural theft to the police to ensure recovery and for the APB to build its intelligence.

This, he stressed will help reduce and ultimately eliminate, the illegal activity.
