NPTAJ urges guidance counsellors to provide the necessary support as four schools mourn the deaths of students
With four institutions hit by tragic incidents since the official start of the new school year, the National Parent Teacher Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) is urging guidance counsellors to provide the necessary support.
Since last Wednesday, September 10, Bull Savannah Primary and Infant School in St. Elizabeth, Hopewell High in Hanover, Edwin Allen High in Clarendon and The Queens School in St. Andrew have been rocked by the deaths of students.
In the first incident on Wednesday, 12-year-old Jada Nelson collapsed at the Bull Savannah Primary School.
She was later pronounced dead.
The following day, 13-year-old Hopewell student Twain Skyers reportedly committed suicide at his home in Lilliput, St. James.
On Friday, September 12, Tanesha Gayle collapsed during a training session at Edwin Allen High.
She died at hospital.
In the latest incident today, 18-year-old Queens student Jada Pollard was shot dead by a gunman at her home in St. Andrew.
Speaking with IRIE FM News today, president of the NPTAJ, Stewart Jacobs expressed sadness at the tragedies.
He expressed hope that those responsible for Jada Pollard’s murder will be brought to justice.
