7 people were arrested for breaches of the National Animal Identification and Traceability System

The police’s Agricultural Protection Branch (APB) arrested seven individuals for breaches of the National Animal Identification and Traceability System (NAITS) in St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland between Thursday and Saturday.

NAITS is an identification and registration system for the country’s livestock population.

APB Commander, Assistant Commissioner, Oral Pascoe said the arrests were made during tours of farming communities.

He said the individuals were found with cattle which were untagged, and for which they could not give an account.

He said the arrests are part of the APB’s strategy to ensure high compliance and to safeguard the agricultural sector from praedial larcenists.
