Kendal train crash site being recommended for national monument declaration
A recommendation will be made for the Kendal train crash site in Manchester to be declared a national monument.
Culture minister Olivia Grange made the announcement at the unveiling ceremony for a Kendal monument, in the parish yesterday.
Ms. Grange also noted that through collaboration with the Manchester Municipal Corporation, a memorial park and museum will be built at the monument’s location.
The monument was erected in remembrance of the 187 people killed and the more than 700 maimed or disfigured in the train crash on September 1, 1957.
