Man who made election related threats on social media pleads guilty
The St. Elizabeth man who was charged with using audio visual communication to promote violence some two weeks prior to the general election has pleaded guilty to the charges.
Forty-year-old Giovannie Skeen, otherwise called ‘Mother Love’, a vendor from Marlborough district, Balaclava, in the parish, is awaiting sentencing, following the posting of a Tik Tok video, last month.
Reports from the Black River police are that on Monday, August 18, Skeen posted a video on the social media platform threatening violence in the constituency if his preferred candidate lost the upcoming general poll.
In the video, Skeen reportedly stated, that “if we no win, we ago turn the world inna Haiti, pure big matic and rifle,” and “me wi murder people fi me party.”
Skeen was apprehended by law enforcement on Wednesday, August 20, during a targeted operation in his community.
He was charged following a caution statement and a question-and-answer session.
He appeared before the St. Elizabeth parish court on Tuesday, September 9, where he pleaded guilty.
He is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, September 23, for sentencing.
